The Brief
Give retailers a facility to select up to 30 tyres from a database list of thousands. The selected tyres can then be used in a price comparison list to compare the retailer’s prices against their competitors.
What was delivered?
What was delivered was an application that exceeded the requirements. It was capable of:
- Having the whole database with 1000’s of tyres updated from a simple excel spreadsheet provided by client
- Filtering through search results by brand >> width >> ratio >> inches or simply by part number
- Giving each retailer the capability to save and store an unlimited number of lists. This allows them to reuse previous lists they made in the past avoiding the need to create a new one from scratch every time
- Calculating tyre prices with and without VAT
- Allowing retailers to apply a labour charge to every single item in their list simultaneously
- Allowing retailers to apply a discount to every item in their list simultaneously
- Allowing retailers to apply individual labour charges to each individual item in their list
- Allowing retailers to apply individual discounts to individual items in their list
- Allowing users to dynamically update the contents of each list
- Allowing the manipulated list to be exported to either Microsoft Word or Excel, providing an easy access hard copy the user can print off, laminate and give to each customer of simply keep as a reference guide when doing consultations with customers.
All of these extra ideas were added off my own back after using my initiative and out thinking the client on his own present and future needs. I did this to ensure a sense of pride and confidence in the product I delivered. Where relevant, extra curricular, cutting edge technologies like AJAX were used. All of the above was delivered on-time and exceeded the client’s expectations.
